Monitoring of the red-backed shrike

At the moment, monitoring of the red-backed shrike, one of our target species, is at its peak time. With the young shrikes still clumsy, they are particularly easy to spot. Individuals are generally observed on top of a fence post or perched on the tip of a hedge. Sometimes it may also be possible to find its prey, bumblebees or small mice, speared to the spikes of barbed wires. (mehr …)

It seems to be a good year for this species, with a high number of warm and sunny days. Most observations from last season have been confirmed. Hopefully, some new observation points will be found in the following weeks.
